Halifax Regional Police are asking the public to help find the rightful owner – or home – of a statue of an angel that was found abandoned in Bedford.

A resident of a building on Nelson Landing Boulevard found the statue near the building around 8:20 p.m. Monday.

Police say the statue must have been left there between 6 and 8 p.m., but they don’t know who’s responsible.

The statue is about 40 inches tall – just over a metre. It weighs more than 200 pounds and has a metal rod protruding from the bottom.

Police believe it was likely displayed outside a place of worship or possibly in a cemetery.

Given the size, at least two people would have been needed to carry it, and as it doesn’t seem to be from the immediate area where it was found, it’s believed a vehicle was probably used for transport.

Anyone who recognizes the statue or has information about the case can call police at 490-5016 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
