HASTINGS - On Thursday, January 17th 2013, members of the Cumberland Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit conducted a trafficking investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. A 19-year-old Truemanville man and a 20-year-old Amherst man were arrested in the community of Hastings, Nova Scotia, both for possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. During the investigation, a quantity of Hydromorphone 24mg capsules were seized, along with other evidence to support trafficking charges. Neither of the individuals possessed prescriptions for the powerful narcotic.
Both men are scheduled to attend Amherst Provincial Court on March 4th, 2013 to enter a plea to possession of Hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking.
Residents are advised that abuse of prescription narcotics is on the rise in Cumberland County. If you are prescribed narcotics, please ensure they are properly secured in your home, to avoid possible theft and abuse.
