SACKVILLE, N.B. – On Jan. 27, several Sackville musicians and music students will present a special fundraising concert called Scenes from Childhood.

The concert will take place in Brunton Auditorium in Sackville beginning at 3 p.m. Admission is by donation with proceeds going to support the Sackville Music Festival.

For many people who grow up studying and playing music, performing in their local festival is one of the annual events of childhood – hence the childhood theme of this concert. Several of the musical works on the program are those with special resonance from the performers’ own childhoods: works they studied, performed, and came to love at an early age. Others have youth or youthful enthusiasms – including love and friendship – as their subject.

Among the many performers whose talent and generosity will make this fundraising concert possible are Karin Aurell, Janet Hammock, Hiroko Hanamura, Peter Higham, Lynn Johnson, James Kalyn, Michael MacMillan, James and Penelope Mark, Colleen Renihan, David Rogosin, Gary Tucker, Helen Tucker, and Aude Urbancic.

The 2013 Sackville Music Festival will be held on May 3 to 9 in the Music Conservatory of Mount Allison University. Sackville will also host the Provincial Finals Festival again this year, May 28 to June 1.

The deadline for registration for the local festival is Jan. 31. The syllabus and entry forms are available at www.sackvillemusicfestival.com or call 536-4708 for details.
