AMHERST – Cumberland County’s public libraries collected more than 900 food items and forgave more than $1,800 in fines during its seventh Food For Fines Campaign.

This represents an increase of 11 per cent over 2011.

Throughout December, library patrons brought in non-perishable food items of all times – from baby formula to canned stew – to public libraries across the county.

Every donated item removed a fine from an account, whether it was a quarter or $10.

Food items donated remained in the communities in which they were donated.

All Cumberland County libraries participated.
