AMHERST –The Shakedown Combo will be just one of the band featured on this year’s CTV’s New Year’s Eve special. After appearing on CTV’s Morning Live in June, the band said they were asked to make another television appearance.
“Since we’ve done that, they’ve kept in touch with us,” said guitarist Davie Goode. “Liz Rigney, one of the presenters there, heard us when we were there (for the morning show) and I guess she remembered us, liked us and contacted us to see if we could do something for New Years.”
The family formed band, made up of mother Gill, father Davie, and daughter Kim, recently saw a lot of success during the Rock-a-billy festival that graced downtown Amherst over the summer.
Goode said one of the best parts about their upcoming gig was that they didn’t have to ask for their names to be put on the program list.
“Those are the good bits. You never know when it’s going to happen,” he said.
“It’s the first time we’re going to be on TV in Canada, so we’re really excited,” added wife and band vocalist Gill Goode.
The band said they will take to the stage to start playing at 9:30 p.m. the night of the special. They will play for a half an hour, until ten, and that portion of the special will be aired at 10 p.m.
“The last thing we were told is that we will be playing from 10 p.m. until 25 minutes past,” said Goode.
“So about three or four tunes,” his wife guessed.
For their set, the band plans to play some of their own original Rock-a-billy songs, one of which is on their latest album.
Currently, the band is preparing for their upcoming performance.
“Just (doing) lots and lots of practice,” said upright base player Kim Goode.
“We’re going to be busting out a few rehearsals in the next couple of days,” added Davie.

“Since we did a gig in Moncton, something has happened all the time after that that we didn’t even have to go out seek (a gig) and that’s rare. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that anywhere else,” he said. “People have been approaching us to do work and I’ve never felt that anywhere else. It’s usually always the other way around, having to chase people for opportunities.”
The show is set to on the air at 11 p.m.
