AMHERST – The Amherst Fire Department responded to a house fire on Christie Street Friday night.

Deputy Chief Paul Black said by around 9:30 p.m., the fire fighters had gotten the fire under control.

“There were three kids in there,” he said. “The mother discovered the fire and got the kids out. She notified the people next door.

"Our main concern right now is extinguishing the fire.”

The mother, Black said, was able to get out of the house with her children through the front door.

Black said once the fire is extinguished, there will an investigation into the cause.
