The government passed a bill to implement new electoral boundaries in the province today.

The Electoral Boundaries Commission recommended 51 ridings, dropping one seat in Cape Breton as well as shifting the boundaries of several constituencies. Constituencies that were shifted include Clare, Argyle, Queens and Shelburne. Two seats were gained by the Halifax area from Fairview Clayton Park and Sackville.

The new law, Bill 94, was met with controversy and divided the house but was passed in the final vote with 26 for and 22 against.

Mandatory review of the electoral boundaries is done every 10 years.
