SPRINGHILL – The future of the Anne Murray Centre is even brighter thanks to a bill that will ensure the centre gets to keep more of the money it raises.
Cumberland South MLA Jamie Baillie’s bill, passed this week in the Legislature, exempts the non-commercial portion of the Anne Murray Centre from the payment of property taxes. It was introduced in November at the request of Springhill Town Council.
“The Anne Murray Centre is an important anchor in the downtown business district. My bill will ensure that this important tourism draw remains a vibrant part of our community for the long-term,” Baillie said. “I think it is a shining example of the good that can come from different levels of government working together to better our community.”
Since opening in 1989, the Centre has hosted over 400,000 visitors from all over the world.
