AMHERST – Amherst police have not released the name or cause of death of the 63-year old Amherst man who died yesterday behind the wheel of a vehicle, but employees at IMP confirmed the deceased, Bruce Ferguson, worked for the manufacturer.

Ferguson left the road, went through a telephone pole, and knocked a gas pump loose at the Irving gas station on South Albion Street. In a press release following the incident, police expressed their view he may have been in medical distress just before the early morning incident.

A human resources manager with IMP, Alyson Fromm, said Ferguson had been the union president in the past and was the vice-president at the time of his passing. He’d been employed by IMP since 1977.

“He was very well liked and will be sorely missed,” she said.

Police have confirmed the man’s family has been notified.
