AMHERST – Talk about opening with a bang.

It didn’t take long after Robin’s Donuts opened its Amherst restaurant in October for the store to have its first big winner.

Within two weeks of the opening, the store had two people win $1,000 prizes through Robin’s Fall for Cash contest.

“It was pretty remarkable, to consider we had just opened,” franchisee Bart Butler said Friday. “There are only 100 prizes of $1,000 available across the country, and we had two of them within two weeks of opening.”

Ashley Dorey won her prize after picking up a coffee on the way to the hospital for a visit. When she got there, she peeled back the rim and was surprised by what she found.

“I said ‘I just won $1,000.’ The person who I was visiting thought I was joking,” Dorey said.

When Wendy Henwood peeled back the rim on her coffee cup, she was told she was the second winner since the store opened.

Both said the money will come in handy at Christmas.

Butler said business is booming at Robin’s and there’s no indication it’s going to slow down.

“It has been fantastic. It has greatly exceeded our expectations,” he said. “It has been the largest opening Robin’s has had in Atlantic Canada.”
