WESTCHESTER – The cause of a single vehicle accident on Highway 104 this morning was black ice.

Corporal Joe Ryan of the RCMP’s Oxford detachment was first on the scene of the accident, which occurred a little more than five kilometres short of the Cobequid pass toll booth.

“The vehicle was laying on its passenger side,” he said.

Westchester Fire Department had to use the jaws of life to free the man.

“He was hanging there quite a while,” said the corporal.

Life Flight transported the man to hospital in Halifax. The highway was shut down to allow the chopper to land. The driver was lucid.

“He was talking and everything,” said the policeman.

Also attending the scene were EHS and the department of transportation.
