Missing hunter located near Collingwood
SPRINGHILL – A lost hunter has been safely located.
Just after midnight, Friday, Cumberland County RCMP responded to a call of a 68-year-old male hunter who had not returned to camp. He had gone out on his own on an ATV at approximately 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon. When he failed to return, members of his hunting party set out looking for him. They located the ATV in the Farmington area, near Collingwood, but the hunter was not with it. It was then that police were called.
An RCMP Police Service Dog unit attended and Springhill and Pugwash Ground Search and Rescue were called in.
The missing hunter was located by the search dog unit at approximately 3:30 a.m. The hunter was tired but otherwise in good health.
"It was a very good turn out – two full [search and rescue] teams weere called out and it was while they were on the scene and getting set up the search dog located the hunter," Srgt. Allan Carroll with the Cumberland RCMP said. "We love to see things turn out this way before it turns into an extensive search."
