AMHERST – To help get everyone in the Christmas spirit, the Wesleyan Church will be holding a Christmas dessert theatre, featuring the play, ‘A Box of Chocolates’.

“It’s stories within a story,” said Ardie Eaton, the writer of the play and one of the actors.

Eaton said the play begins at a family get together with the characters, discussing how important it is to get as much out of life as possible. One of the characters, a teenage boy, mentions that his father has turned away from God and does not go to church.

“The family are trying to give him ways to show him that it’s still okay to come to church, and that God still loves him,” she said. “The boys asks how he’s to do that and the grandfather says, ‘Why don’t we do what Jesus did, let’s tell him stories’.”

Instead of being narrated, the stories in the play are told by the actors. The three stories, Eaton said, are based on stories by Max Lucado, a Christian author.

“It’s children’s stories,” she said.

The stories featured in the play are Just The Way You Are, A Hat For Ivan and You Are Special.

Tickets are on sale now and can be reserved by calling 667-9126. Tickets will also be available during the church’s craft sale on Nov. 25.

The play will be at the church Nov. 22, 25, 30, and Dec. 1. The doors open at 6 p.m. with the play starting at 7. The featured dessert will be chocolate cake.
