AMHERST – Amherst Preschool students will be without bus transportation for a while yet.

“Nothing’s concrete yet…but we’re getting close,” said board member Ellen Myatt.

The preschool’s board met Thursday night to discuss action on providing transportation for students. Cumberland County Transportation Services Society previously provided busing, but when it came time to renew the contract, the society said they needed to raise their rates significantly. One option discussed by both parties was getting bus service back online for the start of November. That’s not going to happen.

“The parents have not been notified yet,” said Myatt.

She indicated the preschool does not have a driver available and will not have one until mid-month – two weeks past the tentative start date previously discussed.
