AMHERST – Flashy pants, silk tops and shiny jewelry were in style during the Seniors Fashion Show at White Birches Retirement Residence Wednesday night. Some of the residents had the chance to model some new clothes from Jaysets and show them off to their fellow residents.

“I take the residents out to shop and they love Jay Set,” said Cathy Wilson one of the organizers of the fashion show. “I asked them if (Jay Set) would ever be interested in coming out here because some of the residents can’t get out. They said they’d love to.”

Wilson said she took some of the seniors to get fitted for some clothes.

“One of our residents is 97 and they still love fashion,” she said. “They love to get dressed up in makeup and everything, it just makes them feel good.”

The fashion show idea came about as a creative way to allow for the seniors who couldn’t travel to the store to check out the fashions.

“The residents think it’s a great idea. They just love it when they are out like this and people are showing interest. The ones modeling, well they are just excited,” said Wilson.

One of the models and oldest resident at the home, 97-year-old Minerva Boran, couldn’t wait to show off her outfits in show. But, she said she was a little nervous at first.

“Once I got out there, I liked it,” she said. “But, I was a little nervous before but I enjoyed it.”

The best part for Boran was getting out there and showing off her clothes.

“You like to be in the lime light you know,” she said. “I love being all made up. It’s just like acting and I’ve always wanted to do that.”

Although some of the ladies can’t model, Wilson said they love being able to watch their friends strutting their stuff on the catwalk.

“They cheer each other on and everything. You’re never too old for fashion.”
