AMHERST – A 56-year-old Amherst man and a 58-year-old Amherst female were charged under the Canada Excise Act and the Nova Scotia Revenue Act, for allegedly possessing unstamped, unmarked and untaxed tobacco products.
The charges were laid after the Cumberland Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit, with the assistance of Criminal Intelligence Nova Scotia, conducted an investigation under the Customs and Excise Act.
Police executed a search warrant at an Amherst residence on Friday and several cartons of cigarettes and bags of illegal tobacco were seized.
Both individuals will appear in Amherst Provincial Court in November.
The Cumberland Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit is made up of police from the Amherst Police Department, the Cumberland District RCMP, and Springhill Police Department.
