Former Springhill cop sentenced to six months custody

AMHERST – Joshua Wilfred Demers, 29, of Canaan Drive, Dieppe, was sentenced in court last week to a total of six months custody after pleading guilty to several charges.

Demers was sentenced to six-months custody and one-year probation after pleading guilty to stealing approximately 20 litres of gas, the property of the Springhill Police Service, of a value not exceeding $5000.

He was also sentenced to six months custody, concurrent to other sentences, followed by one year probation after pleading guilty to stealing contraband material from the main exhibit locker room of the Springhill Police Service of a value not exceeding $5,000, and after pleading guilty to, being and official peace officer, did commit a breach of trust in connection with his duties by removing and wrongfully taking seized contraband in the custody of the Springhill Police Service without lawful authority and for his own personal benefit.

Furthermore, Demers was sentenced to six months custody, consecutive to any other sentences, followed by one-year probation after pleading guilty to the unlawful possession of marijuana.

Demers was also sentenced to six months custody, followed by one-year probation after pleading guilty to the unlawful possession of marijuana.

The incidents occurred between Aug. 10, 2010, and Jan 22, 2011, in Springhill.
