PARRSBORO – Parrsboro’s Relay for Life is underway at the community’s rink. Sixteen teams are participating, totaling about 130 people, and over a hundred volunteers were expected.

“This is our fifth year,” said Sharon Bristol, district coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Bristol thinks they’ll top $30,000 from the fundraising event.

Cougars for the Cure, one of the teams, raised $6,500.

“I’m walking for my grampa. He died of cancer,” said student and team member Megan Atkinson.

Betty Adams has had cancer twice. The last diagnosis was four years ago: melanoma, on her foot.

“I’m 80 years old and I feel 70,” said Adams.

She lost a brother in February to cancer. It’s an emotional evening for her.

“It’s been a great life,” said the octogenarian.
