AMHERST – Three people charged following a drug bust last winter had a preliminary hearing in court on Tuesday and had their cases adjourned to make plea at a later date.

The defendants, Christopher Kenneth Coade, Christopher Lee Glennie, and Troy William Hayes are charged with cocaine and marijuana-related offences including conspiracy to traffick.

Coade will return to court April 10 at 1:30 p.m. for plea and sentencing, Glennie will return to court April 11, at 1:30 p.m. to make a plea, and Hayes will return to court June 12 at 9:30 a.m. for plea and sentencing.

Hayes’ defence requested the adjournment to get charges from Alberta for other drug related charges brought to Amherst.

The three were part of a drug bust that saw eight males and one female charged with trafficking.

On Feb. 2, 2011, members of the RCMP ’H’ Division Federal Drug Section and the Cumberland County Street Crime Unit, consisting of members of Amherst Police Department, Springhill Police Department and Amherst RCMP, as well as RCMP ‘J’ Division District 4 Street Crime Enforcement Unit and District 11 members, seized over 6 kilograms of cocaine and 4 pounds of marihuana as a result of a two-month long investigation that targeted a group that was involved in the trafficking of drugs in the Amherst and Cumberland County area. 20 rifles were also seized, along with a significant quantity of cash.
