AMHERST – Ken Gilbert pulls on a rope while an elm tree was being cut down Thursday on Victoria Street. The tree is one of six that have been cut down since Tuesday. Gilbert has been contracted to cut down 36 trees throughout Amherst. The trees are being hauled away because they have Dutch Elm Disease. Gilbert said the job should be complete by the end of March, weather permitting.
