Clint Brown has 12 bands and preformers in place for the Boxing Day jam at Teazers Pub and Eatery in Amherst. All he wants now is for a full house of people to enjoy the music, and have fun.

AMHERST – Teazers Annual Boxing Day Jam is going to have a lot of new talent in the lineup.

“Normally it’s been pretty much all cover bands,” said Clint Brown, organizer of the 2011 jam. “This year I went with 10 original bands and two cover bands, so it’s a little different.”

Brown was asked about two weeks ago to help organize the event.

"I get a lot of people who are interested in seeing some artists from around the Maritimes and they’re starting to build a fan base around here, so people are asking for more original music.”

Brown has booked East Coast Music Award winners in the past but said two weeks wasn’t enough time to get them in the lineup. “Maybe next year,” he said.

Twelve bands will play at the jam. Brown is excited about the 2011 lineup.

“Shades of Sorrow is definitely a band people want to make it out for, and the Shakedown Combo,” said Brown.

The Shakedown Combo is from Amherst.

“This is only the second or third show they’ve had here but they’re an awesome draw,” said Brown, “They play rockabilly and have played big shows in Las Vegas and Nashville, so it’s an honour to have them play at this event.”

The jam begins Monday at 2 p.m. with three hours of hip-hop music and wraps up at 2 a.m. Grindstone closes out the night. In between there’s many different musical genres on the bill.

Brown said the jam fills to capacity and all kinds of people attend.

“I’ve seen people as young as 15-years-old because it’s an all ages event but they have to be accompanied by a parent. But they’re still allowed in,” Brown said. “I’ve seen people as young as 15 and as old as 75.”

The cost is $5 at the door.

The Jam sounds interesting this year, personally I like the cover bands who do a great job at donating their time year after year at Teazers and not just on Boxing Day - they will be sadly missed by many, especially Plain Jane and those single singers who always join in. Looking forward to the communities up and coming hip hop artists - just my two cents worth!
