AMHERST – Zachary Quinn Brake, 18, of Mechanic Street Springhill, was in court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing but at the request of his defence had the preliminary hearing adjourned until Jan. 27, 2012, at 9:30 a.m.
The defence said they are having technical difficulties viewing the crown’s disclosure evidence.
Brake has been charged with the second-degree murder of his mother, 37-year-old Tracy Ann Rudderham.
The incident occurred Oct. 24 in Springhill.
Brake is remanded in custody at a provincial correctional institute until the preliminary hearing on Jan. 27, 2012.
He had a psychological assessment done at East Coast Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Dartmouth, N.S., and a publication ban has been placed on the contents of the psychological assessment.
Brake turned himself in to Springhill Police just before 3 a.m., on Oct. 24, and police went to the Mechanic Street home and discovered the body.
It hasn’t been revealed how Rudderham was killed, but it was confirmed it did not involve a firearm.
