RIVER HEBERT – Cattails, dandelions and inner tree bark.

It might not sound like an appetizing meal to some, but to someone lost in the wilderness, plant material like that mentioned above could mean the difference between life and death.

This vital knowledge will be the subject of an upcoming workshop hosted by the River Hebert and Area Garden Club on Sept. 17. Facilitated by expert Greg Osowski, the workshop will take place at Riverhead Farm, 3858 Boars Back Road from 1-3 p.m. Participation is free but space is limited.

“It’s just about education, and we want to target the youth,” said garden club president Su Morin. “It’s part of a series of food preservation workshops, with the goal to try and get youth re-learning important life skills that are being lost.”
