AMHERST - It's that time of year again, the time some start collecting pledges for the Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life.

Having hosted the walk for the past three years, the Northern AIDS Connection Society is holding the walk a little later than usual in the hopes of having more schools become involved.

Al McNutt, director of the society, said the organization has had trouble getting school teams involved because of the early date during the school year.

"We know that youth are the faces of tomorrow," said McNutt. "By having school teams involved, it shows they are taking some leadership in the community."

This year's walk in Amherst will be held Oct. 1, with registration at 12 p.m. and the walk beginning an hour later. Teams raising at least $100 will have 50 per cent of their fundraising returned to go toward an AIDS or sexual health-related organization or program.

For more information or to register for the Amherst walk, email walkcoordinator@eastlink.ca, or call Debbie Curry at 661-1874.
