AMHERST – An officer on foot patrol in downtown Amherst observed three adult males acting suspicious in and around the downtown core in the early morning hours on Saturday.

All three were carrying bags containing various break-and-enter tools. Seized from the men were bolt cutters, hammers, pry bars, screwdrivers and other tools.

The three males were charges with possession of break and enter tools and they will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.

This was one of 41 reported calls for assistance in what police call a busy weekend.

A local man was arrested on Saturday for uttering a threat to cause death to another Amherst man. His charges are pending a court date.

A Halifax area man was arrested on a warrant and released with a court date of Aug. 22 for failing to appear in court in Halifax.

A lone vehicle on Rupert Street had its window smashed out Saturday night.

Also, an abandoned building on Laplanche Street was broken into sometime Friday evening.

Spray painting was discovered on downtown buildings as well. Also, an Amherst man faces two charges of breaching an undertaking.

Several disturbances were attended to and, as a result, several prisoners were held overnight.

Two motor vehicle accidents were reported, as were two assault matters.

Police also enrolled the assistance of Family and Children services in regards to two separate custody parent-fit parent investigations.
