PARRSBORO - Youngsters from preschool age to adolescents turned out here on July 12, as the annual bicycle rodeo returned as an Old Home Week activity.
Put on jointly by the Cumberland RCMP and the Parrsboro Lions Club, the event saw a large turnout of youngsters at the Lions Arena parking lot in the afternoon despite heavy rainfall earlier in the day.
The purpose of the event is to promote bicycle safety and have a little fun in the process, according to Const. Dal Hutchinson, RCMP community relations officer, and also a member of the Parrsboro Lions Club.
"We saw this as an opportunity to add more children's events to Old Home week," said Hutchinson. "We thought this would be a great way to get kids involved with the activities."
After elarning about helmet and bicycle safety, and running a small course using proper hand signals, the participants were treated to a treat inside the arena and various prizes.
