PUGWASH – The Gathering of the Clans and Fishermen’s Regatta will take on an extra shine this year, as the annual July 1 event will celebrate its Diamond Jubilee.

A busy day of activities is planned, according to co-ordinator Lisa Betts, who said the last details of preparation were falling into place this week.

“A couple things still need to be sorted out, but we’re ready,” said Betts. “It’s getting to the point now, where if it’s not done yet, it’s too late anyway.”

Being the 60th anniversary of the event, the Diamond Jubilee will be the theme of this year’s parade.

“So I’m expecting to see lots of diamonds and sparkly things,” she said, about the grand parade, which will begin at 10 a.m. “When I was ordering the fireworks, I was also hoping to see lots of sparkly things.”

The fireworks over the harbor will take place at 10 p.m.
