AMHERST - The sound of frenzied children's laughter confirmed it - Dickey Park's new splash pad is a hit.

The new cemented water recreation area of the park was unveiled at a special gathering on Saturday, June 25, when Mayor Robert Small was joined by other town officials and Cumberland North MLA Brian Skabar in pushing the button to officially turn on the water to the various pieces of equipment.

Whether it was running through the spray from the many spouts, or waiting to be drenched by a bucket full of water, several youngsters took advantage of the new apparatus despite a day of cooler than normal temperatures.

"I remember the days when you could walk on hot pavement into the pool, when this was Dickey Pool," recalled the mayor. "Now, with the splash pad, hopefully we'll have more kids making more memories so that when they get to be my age they can remember Dickey Park and what a great place it is."

Now, all they need is some picnic tables and benches, maybe a swing set...
