RIVER HEBERT - Helmets, hand grips and hand signals were words of the day here on June 3, as students at River Hebert Elmentary School were treated to a bicycle rodeo.

The Cumberland RCMP, along with the River Hebert Home and School Associations, and various volunteers including EHS paramedics and traffic compliance officers, ran students from Grades Primary to Six through safety drills to better prepare them to be safe on their bicycles this summer.

"The purpose is to teach them the skills necessary for going out biking," said Const. Dal Hutchinson. "We want to keep them safe when they're on the roads. The summer is coming upon us, they're going to be out on the streets, and we want them to be aware and also remind them of the necessary skills that they need to have."

With a light rain falling, the students stopped at a number of information stations outside on the schoolyard, learning things such as proper helmet wearing, hand signals and some rode their bicycles around a course of pilons.
