AMHERST - To help protect local youth, a local library and the sexual health centre are hoping to teach parents about cyberbullying.

Denise Corey, deputy chief librarian with the Cumberland Public Libraries, said the organization jumped at the chance to talk about the dangers of cyberbullying and sending naked pictures through text messages, which many call 'sexting.'

Referring to recent suicides in the province due to cyberbullying, Corey said it's important to share the message.

"Anything you can do to prevent something like that...we jumped at the chance to," she said.

Ruthie Patriquin, executive director with the Sexual Health Centre for Cumberland County, will make the presentations. One is scheduled for June 9 at the Four Fathers Memorial Library in Amherst, and the other is to be held at the Parrsboro Lions Club on June 15. Both run from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Organizations: Cumberland Public Libraries, Sexual Health Centre, Parrsboro Lions Club
