AMHERST - Taking advantage of the Internet is bringing in an additional $1,000 each month for the local animal shelter.

Jo-Ann Livingstone is hosting weekly auctions on the social network Facebook for the L.A. Animal Shelter.

She got the idea from other shelters in the province.

"The response has really been quite interesting," said Livingstone, who posts pictures on the site to have people place their bids.

The auctions run from Sunday mornings to 9 p.m. the following Saturday. Items are new or old - but sellable.

"As long as people keep supplying me with the items I will do it," she said. "I don't want to put a deadline on it."

Small items for the auction can be dropped off at the shelter, however bigger pieces - such as furniture - will need to be arranged for pick-up.

For more information, visit the auction site by searching for Lillian Albion AnimalShelter on Facebook.
