AMHERST - The first local Walk the Walk for Autism is being held next month.

Piece by Piece Autism Association is hosting the walk, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. June 18 at Dickey Park.

Elaine Mazur, co-founder and chair of the local association, said the walk is one of several happening across the province at the same time in support of autism spectrum disorder.

“We’re hoping to raise awareness about autism, connect families that have autistic members and to support each other,” said Mazur, whose six-year-old daughter has autism.

She’s also hoping it will be a fun event for families that do have a child or other individual with autism spectrum disorder.

Walkers can collect pledges for the event, either as individuals or a team.
