SUMMERSIDE - The body of a missing 81-year-old Amherst man has been found in the Northumberland Strait.

The man, who hasn't been identified at the request of the family, was found at approximately 12:30 p.m. by a fisherman just off the Confederation Bridge.

Summerside RCMP accompanied the Canadian Coast Guard in responding to the report of the body and worked with local police officials in Amherst to confirm the man's identity.

Earlier this week, the man's wife reported him missing. His vehicle was found abandoned on the bridge in Port Howe over the River Philip. Searches from the air, land and water in the area over two days turned up nothing.
