AMHERST - Local organizations are hoping to make communities more age-friendly.
Sarah MacPherson, health promotion co-ordinator with the Cumberland Health Authority, said the Age Friendly Communities project is a collaboration between the Municipality of Cumberland County, Public Health, Nova Scotia Community College, Continuing Care, Cobequid Housing, Cumberland County Transportation Society and the Cumberland Seniors Council.
"Our goal is to find out what aspects in the communities are age friendly and what aspects need improvement," MacPherson said. "We'll be looking at things such as transportation, housing, outdoor spaces, and others."
The municipality was given a recreation grant through the Department of Seniors for the project.
