TRURO - The Chignecto-Central Regional School Board recognized 15 of its extraordinary teachers, including five from Cumberland County, at the annual Excellence in Teaching Awards on Tuesday, April 26 in Truro.

Honoured from the Chignecto Family - Cumberland Local were Oxford Regional Education Centre teachers Kendall Black and Gwen Ferdinand, along with Kim Dorey of the Chignecto Central Adult High School in Amherst, Holly MacDonald of Cumberland North Academy in Brookdale and Dorothy Meagher of Junction Road Elementary School in Springhill.

Dorey, a teacher for the past 18 years, said she the whole experience has been “overwhelming.”

“I was surprised,” she said. “I just had a lot of mixed emotions. I’m very happy and feel very good that the students thought of me to do something like that. Saying that, I feel a little bad because there’s some other really good teachers, all probably more deserving than I am.”
