Cumberland County firefighters take part in live training exercise
APPLE RIVER - There’s nothing like the real thing.
When it comes to training firefighters, a real live fire situation is a golden opportunity, and several fire departments from around the county embraced that opportunity by taking part in a live burn exercise in Apple River last weekend.
Firefighters from Advocate, Joggins, River Hebert, Springhill and Truemanville were on hand for the day-long exercise, which included numerous training drills as a vacant house was burned to the ground.
“In my mind, there’s no training like actual on-the-ground training,” said Cumberland Firefighters Association president Richard Boone. “You can talk all you want, and play without smoke and fire, but when guys start feeling the heat and seeing the smoke, it gets the adrenaline going a bit more and is more realistic.”
