AMHERST - A traditional music ensemble from a high school in Maine is lending a hand to the local reenactment group.

The Franklin County Fiddlers will stop in Amherst for a performance tonight with the proceeds going to the Amherst branch of the 3rd New Jersey Volunteers, Reenactment Society.

"Their stop in Amherst came about through the friendship between Pat Melanson, an Amherst native, and Steve Muise who is the head of the (musical) group," said Terry Farrell with the reenactment society.

Farrell said the group, which is from Farmington, Maine, was looking for places to play on its Maritime tour.

For $5, music-goers can enjoy the sounds of the 24 students performing on instruments such as the violin, flute, viola, cello, bass, guitar, piano and accordian.

The performance will begin at 8 p.m. at Tantramar Theatre. Tickets are available at the door.
