AMHERST - Highway fatalities in Cumberland County last year tied for second highest outside of those in the province's largest municipality.
In 2010, Cumberland County roads saw six citizens die, the same number as Hants County and one behind Pictou.
Halifax Regional Municipality had 18.
"Looking at those numbers, we had a very, very buy year when it came to motor vehicle collisions in Cumberland County," said Cumberland RCMP Const. Dal Hutchinson.
"In the months of June and July, we had about 40 motor vehicle collisions."
Hutchinson said five of those six fatalities were on highways patrolled by the RCMP detachment.
"But all six were tragic events," he said.
"It would be really nice to see our stats at zero."
Among the fatalities in Cumberland County, two were youth in the Parrsboro area. One was killed as he drove his vehicle, another was struck by a vehicle while walking along the side of the road.
Two of the deaths were local teachers as well.
