AMHERST - With the melting of the snow comes something that's completely unpredictable - grass fire season.

Mark Goodwin, a firefighter with the Amherst department, teaches about wildfires in the area and said the season has already started.

Goodwin said the first grass fire the department was called to was one almost two weeks ago, just after a house fire.

Firefighters were called Friday night to one outside Amherst, and had a call of burning leaves on Saturday afternoon.

As of April 15, permits will be required in Cumberland County to burn, however there isn't supposed to be any open fires within Amherst town limits.
