AMHERST - A school reunion scheduled for this summer has been cancelled due to lack of organizational help.
Kim Ripley, who graduated from Amherst Regional High School in 1988 as Kim Routledge, said she offered to organize the event with some help, but not enough people stepped forward.
"I'm sorry that it's happening this way, but I just can't do it by myself," she said from her home in Trenton, Ontario.
"Unfortunately, only three people stood up saying they were willing to help."
Ripley said it was she and two other individuals who were trying to organize the event, but things have been put on the backburner.
Ten years ago, Ripley said she helped organize a reunion for classes between 1976 and 1991 that saw 1,000 attend.
"A reunion isn't necessarily for the people that still live in Amherst because they can see everyone every day," she said. "It's for those people, such as myself, that have been away for years after only a day or two after graduation. It's a great way to see people again."
Ripley said there is a Facebook group set up (Amherst Regional High School Reunion) with between 700 and 800 members.
"There are a lot that have said they would help set up for the reunion, but that's it."
Ripley said some arrangements had already been made for this summer's reunion, such as the stadium and bartender. But she said other things kept getting put off and she couldn't wait any longer before making a tough decision.
