AMHERST – Everything is back to normal in Cumberland County's only operating rooms.
The ORs were closed over the weekend to allow renovations to be completed to the heating and ventilation systems at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
"The work didn't take as long as anticipated and everything was back to normal by Saturday evening," Ann Keddy of the Cumberland Health Authority said early Monday.
The ORs were slated to be closed for 24 hours beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday. During the period, any emergency surgeries or maternity cases were to be transferred to Colchester Regional Hospital in Truro.
Keddy said Monday there was no need to send anyone to Truro.
The upgrade allows the facility to capture heated air before it exits the hospital and use it to warm fresh air as it enters the building. The $400,000 project, funded in party by the Department of Health and Wellness, has a cost-recovery period of about three years through anticipated energy savings.
