AMHERST - For 24 straight hours this weekend, the town should be abuzz with physical activity.
Several organizations in Amherst, including the town, Cumberland Health Authority, Cumberland YMCA and the Youth Advisory Council, are hosting a 24-hour physical activity day.
"It's sort of a kick off to the new initiative in the Town of Amherst toward a healthier town, a more active town and a happier town," said Corey Crocker, physical activity leader for the Town of Amherst.
"We want to promote awareness for the entire community."
Beginning at 9 a.m. this Saturday, residents can take advantage of a host of free activities, whether with friends or family, or by themselves.
"It's about having fun and being active, especially as a family."
Crocker said the town is interested in keeping track of those that are being active during the day, whether by email or phone call.
There are a number of locations where people will find activity going on, including the Amherst Stadium, Dickey Park, Rotary Park, and Winston Avenue field.
Activities include, but aren't limited to, snowshoeing, skating, road hockey, Zumba, cyclefit, snowman building contest, downtown art walk, outdoor challenge, football, among others.
