NORTHPORT - Physical education just took on a whole new look at Northport Consolidated Elementary School.
The school now has an outdoor ice surface for the use of students and the local community, thanks to the efforts of a handful of students, staff and volunteers.
"Now we have a community rink," said principal Steve Wells.
The rink area was created by previous principal Rod Ogden about 15-16 years ago, but has not been used in at least a decade, according to Wells, who discovered it when he arrived here from Halifax this year.
Aware that the school had limited gymnasium space, the new principal said he wanted to make more use of the back yard for physical education, and said the rink fit in perfectly with that plan. He just needed help to get it set up.
