PUGWASH - You seldom see women of the night out during the day but in Pugwash last Saturday there were a few out.

A group of ladies from the Pugwash area banded together to form a team for the dragon boat races held at Eaton Park.

Ladies of the night costume designer Barb Kennedy said the group is made of women in their 60s who are retired and wanted to come to Harbour Fest and have a good time.

"We're definitely just here for the fun of it and we're strong contenders for last place," Kennedy joked.

Team captain Judith Richard joked with her teammate as she said they raced once and were in last place among the other teams in the dragon boat races.

The Shore Shees is the name the ladies of the night gave themselves for the event.

"I think Harbour Fest is great for the area because it brings people in the area together and it's a lot of fun," Heather Durant, Shore Shees team member said.

Among the many events at Pugwash's Harbour Fest, helicopter tours of the area were given and eight-year-old Ben White and his six-year-old brother Jack White were among the passengers on the helicopter.

"It was really fun, we went over sand bars and we saw a tractor on the road from up in the air," Ben said.

"It was like we had wings," Jack chimed in, adding that the helicopter was really loud.

"We had to use headphones to talk to each other," Ben said.

Ben admitted getting on and off the helicopter was a little scary for him and that the ride itself was really bumpy.

Helicopter tours were given out of Eaton Lodge from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Pugwash's Harbour Fest was well attended and, according to one of the Harbour Fest coordinators, Ashley Grace, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

"It's a nice day and everyone is having a lot of fun. There are also a lot of fundraisers happening throughout the festival for various organizations," Grace said.
