AMHERST - After spending 50 hours high in the air in the Amherst Fire Department's ladder truck, Greg Jones made his descent back to the ground with his father Darrell Jones by his side.

The event was a fundraiser for muscular dystrophy and is an annual event by the Amherst Fire Department.

Each rung of the ladder that had Jones suspended 30 feet in the air was sponsored, raising more than $14,000 during the fundraising effort.

"The time went pretty quick," Jones said, adding that people as they passed by would wave and holler encouragement to him.

Jones, a firefighter for 10 years, said he always wanted to be up in the ladder for this event and was glad to be a part of it this year.

"The last half-hour my father came up with me, it was fun. I really enjoyed doing this," Jones said.

He added that the medical staff on hand 24-7 did a great job as well.

When Jones made his descent at 2 p.m. Saturday, the final tally was $14,537
