SACKVILLE, NB – Celebrating their 75th year the Sackville Art Association kicks off their 75th year with “Painting the Blues” at the Live Bait Theatre on May 8.
The show will not only feature Mark MacMillan and his band but will include an art auction from work done by 15 local artists, many of whom are part of the Thursday’s Painters Club.
“We like getting together on Thursday’s to provide inspiration to each other in a relaxed atmosphere,” club member Barb King said.
“I’ve been involved with the club for 15 years. Once my kids were grown I had more time on my hands to paint,” another club member Ginny Chapman said.
The anniversary event at Live Bait on May 8 is the kick off to a season laced with many activities including a workshop held by Joy Laking on July 7,8 and 9.
“Joy doesn’t usually do workshops anymore but because it’s the 75 anniversary for the Sackville Art Association she has decided to do the workshop,” Laurell Hamilton Sackville Art Association president said.
Association member Gil Collicott said the non-profit association is always busy with fundraisers such as the hospital foundation night where the artists raised $3,100 for the foundation.
“The Art association donates to organizations like Autumn House and many other organizations within the communities of Amherst and Sackville,” Collicott said.
Artwork that will be available at the art auction will include water colours, oils, acrylics, pastels, pottery, sculptures and more from the following participating artists; Vertis, Barb King, Ginny Chapman, Laurell Hamilton, Margaret Wiles, Dorothy Brown, Dianna Leger, Joan Gregory, Janet Tucker, Marry Farrell, Jennine Powers, Colin McCabe, Gil Collicott, Christi Sidhu, Amber Lounder, Emily Boyd, Leslie Reid and Roch Bourque.
The evening of May 8 starts at 7pm where people will be able to browse and see the work of the 15 local artists that will be auctioned of by Roger White and be entertained by Mark MacMillan and his band “Painting the Blues” at Live Bait Theatre in Sackville. Admission is a free will donation at this live music cash bar event.
