PARRSBORO – Responding to what they thought was a grass fire, the Parrsboro Volunteer Fire Department showed up to a call on Eastern Avenue to find three garages on adjacent lots ablaze.

A structure at the rear of Kerwin and Anne Davison’s property on Eastern Avenue burned along with two vehicles that were inside. Also burned was the backside of a garage structure at the residence of Norman Rafuse on Chapel Street, along with another garage structure at the rear of the Anglican Church rectory at the corner of Eastern Avenue and Chapel Street.

“We were called out to a grass fire at 4:25 p.m. and when we got here it was a structure fire that we put out,” Parrsboro Volunteer Fire Department deputy chief, Lloyd Smith said.

Thirteen firefighters responded to the call, according to the deputy chief.
