Blues swamp Pirates in first game of Sid Rowe final

Blues beat Pirates 5-1

SPRINGHILL – Winning the first game of a best-of-seven series on your own turf is always important, especially when the next two games are played in you’re opponents barn.

And that’s exactly what the Cumberland County Blues did when the beat the Port Hawkesbury Pirates 5-1 during their Sid Rowe Divisional final series Friday night at the Richard Calder Arena.

With the first frame winding down the Blues were down 1-0 but before the buzzer sounded the Blues quickly went ahead 2-1 off of goals from Dave Burke and Seth Crowe.

Other goals scored by the Blues came off the stick of Ryan Smith, Cody Roach and Crowe, who scored his second goal of the night.

Assisting on the goals were Roach, Murray Bavis, Jordie Shaw and Alex McKinnon.

Andrew Court played in net for the Blues and his teammates out shot the Pirates 31-21.

The Blues travel to Port Hawkesbury on Sunday, Mar. 14, to take on the Pirates at 5 p.m.

The third game of the series goes in Port Hawkesbury on Friday, Mar. 19.

The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

The Blues return to the Richard Calder Arena Sunday, Mar. 21,  and that game begins at 5 p.m.
