Candidates’ forum set for Oct. 2

AMHERST – Amherst voters will get to hear from the candidates next week when the Amherst and Area Chamber of Commerce, the Cumberland African Nova Scotian Association and the Amherst Lions Club host an all candidates forum.

The forum will take place at the Amherst Lions Club, 9 Electric St., Amherst, on Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Each of the nine candidates for town council, two candidates for the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board and the two candidates for mayor will be given an opportunity to speak to the audience, answer questions and provide closing remarks.

There will also be a media panel on hand to ask questions of the candidates.

Chamber president Dave Mosley will be the host of the forum, Geoff deGannes of CANSA will be the moderator and chamber treasurer Susan McIsaac will be timekeeper.

Those running for council include incumbents George Baker, Robert Bird, Dale Fawthrop, David March and Terry Rhindress as well as Frank Balcom, Ed Childs, Lisa Emery and Art Marks. Incumbent Robert Small and Wayne Bishop are running for mayor.

Incumbent David Myles and Richard Allen are running for the town’s one school board position.
