First elected in 2000

Kathy Redmond is running Cumberland District 6.

WENTWORTH – Since first being elected 12 years ago, Kathy Redmond says she has worked hard to promote District 6 on Cumberland municipal council.

Redmond, who now lives in Pugwash, is re-offering in the district in the Oct. 20 municipal election. She is facing Bill Baker.

“I love doing my job on council and serving the people of District 6. We have accomplished a lot in 12 years and I would like to continue to represent the people of the district for another four years.”

Redmond said she has had a lot of positive feedback from people in the district and said the fact she lives in a neighbouring district will not impact her on election day.

“The people in the district are so supportive and they’re saying they will still support me because they tell me that I’ve always done a good job representing them,” she said.

Since she was first elected in 2000, Redmond has worked to support the district’s community centres and many groups in the area. She was instrumental in getting the playground installed at the Wentworth Consolidated Elementary School in 1997-98 and she worked to get the playground equipment updated in 2007-08.

She has served on numerous committees including Wentworth Home and School, Wentworth School Advisory Council, the Oxford and Area Police Advisory Council, restorative justice and volunteered at Ski Wentworth during the Canada Games.

Redmond has served on a variety of county committees including East Cumberland Lodge, the police services advisory committee, wellness committee, the bylaw and policy committee, the Wentworth Community Development Council and the community development council.

She has also volunteered with the Pugwash Gathering of the Clans, HarbourFest and the Kraft Canada/TSN broadcast from Pugwash in August.

While they are provincial issues, Redmond said she will continue to lobby for the future of the Wentworth school and for highways in the Wentworth, Westchester, Collingwood and River Philip areas.
